Ask anyone over the age of 25 how they behave, and you can usually get a good description. Still, there are good points to being an uncle, and getting to hear what kind of trouble the little ones are getting into is certainly expected to be one of them – at least for me. One of the downsides, however, is baby pictures.
Baby pictures? Why? you might ask.
Simple – my brother (who, with his wife, are making me into an uncle) is a middle manager. He is also a powerpoint wizard. (Which, come to think of it, might be somewhat related…. but that is for another day…) I have a relatively fast internet connection, but even a fast connection can get swamped when someone sends me a 2+ MB powerpoint file. On top of that, I’m a Linux andmin. I don’t even have powerpoint. I had to go through contortions just to see the pics – never mind do things like show them to people.
Fortunately, I have a solution to this problem. Since I am a Linux geek, I simply converted that file to a PDF (a nice clean open standard) and put them up on my web server. So, if you want to see pictures of my brother’s unborn child, you can look here. The new file is approximately 350kb.
I love my brother, but 2.5mb? NO!
